A nonprofit, competitive swimming club like the Saskatoon Lasers, relies on volunteer labor from its members to conduct its ongoing administrative and fundraising operations. Without this resource, our club will stall, unravel, divide, or collapse under the weight on an overburdened coaching staff or the inequitable distribution of responsibilities among its members. Therefore, a policy that requires every parent to volunteer for one or two tasks is essential for our club to be successful.
Each family must earn a specified number of points per year by volunteering to perform various tasks for the club. After a task is completed, points are recorded in a journal. Every quarter, each family is notified of the number of points it has earned and the number of points that are still outstanding. At the end of the year, those families that have not earned all of their points must be billed a monetary amount equal to each unearned point.
